Cassi and her Grandpa are very close. They tell stories, play music, play hide and seek, and blow bubbles together. But Grandpa sometimes forgets things, like the end of stories and that he’s supposed to be looking for Cassi during a game of hide and seek. One evening Grandpa wanders off, and Cassi sets out to find him. And what she discovers is a vast world full of memories – memories that are sometimes difficult, and memories that she must navigate to find her Grandpa and bring him safely home.
This graphic novel is beautifully illustrated and provides such a lovely visual context to the difficult topic of dementia in loved ones. It is a quick and touching read, and I think middle grade readers will find this novel enjoyable and also walk away with more compassion and understanding for loved ones experiencing dementia.
