Book Recommendation

3rd Grader Book Recommendation: Nugly by M.C. Ross

My 3rd grade daughter wanted in on the book recommendations, so she has put together this recommendation for Nugly by M.C. Ross. I haven’t had a chance to read this one myself, but I think kids looking for a gentle and heartwarming chapter book with the great message of loving yourself for what’s on the inside will really enjoy Nugly.

OVERVIEW: Nugget is a cute dog that is living with a girl named Tayler. Soon he runs away and his face is deformed from an accident. Nugget now thinks he’s unlovable because he’s not cute anymore. Nugget finds many families and some people are not nice to him. He soon stops believing in hope. Will he ever learn to love himself?

RECOMMENDED FOR AGES: 8 to 10

THEMES: Friendship; second chances, accepting imperfection.

FAVORITE LINE: “The big brown eyes were still there.”

BONUS INFO: It’s a very good family book.

I recommend Nugly because its a loving story that will make you want to read it twice!
